REVIEW: Danny Silvertone : INSOMNIA (Album)

 Review for Insomnia Album

Album Art

Firstly, the album art is awesome! It works really well and the single colour used looks awesome!

Insomnia

Filtering in the intro sounds great. Vocals are amazing. Percussion / drum beat fits well with the vibe in the track. Vocals in some parts are hard to understand with the volume of the drums being similar. At around 1:24 there is a drop of most instruments, this fits really well and sounds great. Hook sounds great and has good energy. The solo type sound around 2:30 fits and the outro from there is fitting. The growing distortion fits the song well and is very interesting. Overall, this song is very well produced, sounds great and has great lyrics to it. A great opening to the album.

Bad Idea!

Percussive intro is very effective. Vocals for a couple of lines after intro then straight into 808 and drums sounds awesome. The 808 hits so hard! Love the telephone style vocals following the chorus. Rolling hi-hats sounds great. Great lyrics yet again. Love the harmonies in the chorus also. Love the ending loop to calm it down again. Nice fade out at the end. Love this song overall, very well produced, great sounding! Could listen to it over and over again.

Go Again

I think an extra bar of the intro chords would sound better at the start instead of straight into vocals. The vocals however are great and clean. Love the chill vibe. Early 2000s vibes it seems which are cool. Cool vocal doubling and adlibs. Cool filtering of the percussion around 1:46 before the next chorus. 2:36 has cool filtering effect again with the vocals and percussion with a couple of adlibs just peaking through (very cool effect). Towards the end the vocals seem to get a little repetitive however they still sound great. Overall, good song, the idea is great but the song could be shortened a little with the repetition of the vocals at the end.

The Reason

Lo-fi vibes are very cool. Very nice smooth bass line throughout. Awesome production. Cool reverb on adlibs around 1:30. 1:45 really cool percussion reverb sound. Very deep lyrics. 2:35 nice smooth outro. I feel with the theme of this song being somewhat about the subject of love or relationships, this softer and calmer sound is great. Maybe a little less autotune could be used. You have a great voice without so much autotune.

ALONE

Oriental type sample in the background is different. Very clean vocals. Adlibs and backing vocals sound awesome with the extra reverb. 0:45 reversed reverb is cool. Chorus / hook sounds like a top chart song. Huge snare with reverb fits so well. Lyrics are beautiful. Chorus melody is awesome. This song could definitely be on the radio. Very emotional lyrics throughout. Production is again super. Very nice quick ending.

Shadow

Bass line reminds me of daft punk style. Great vocals. 90s style drums are a great fit for the song. Lots of vocal layers in the “Shadow” lyrics are awesome fitting. Love the arpeggio / synth pattern following the 2nd chorus. Very clean drums. Overall, very cool track. Another radio one for sure.

No One Can Judge Us

Beautiful guitar and synth bass in the intro. Wind chimes sound at the beginning is a brilliant addition. Vocals around 0:45 are very cool, lot of crispy sound. backing vocals are awesome. Chorus with the hi-hats are a perfect addition. Guitar throughout blends everything together. 2:23 weird cut-off breath sound which is effective but loses a bit of clean sound within the track as a whole. Chorus vocal melody is perfect fitting within the song. 3:21 vocals whispering is cool and is very interesting. Overall, the sound is awesome. I don’t know what else to say. It is effective and awesome.

Is it passion?

Pads at the start with small hints of vocals are cool. I think another bar could have been done with just pads and drums before vocals kick in. Super hard-hitting vocals following the 1st verse. “Is It Passion” lyrics with the distortion is contrasting and works really well in the overall mix. 3:06 very relaxing ambient sound, very meditative. Fits the feel of the song very well. I could listen to this for hours.

The Beach

Beautiful instrumental at the intro. 0:26 sick bass synth. 0:41 vocal backing is awesome. Chorus and drums are hard. Some parts of the vocals are hard to understand what you are saying however, you make up for this after with very clean vocal mixing and lyrics. 2:15 distortion gives a rock guitar feel but it came in very harshly which was confusing at first, the drums around 2:40 brought is back together though and blended it back into the song. 3:04 ambient soundscape vibe is cool again and brings back to the intro idea.

Nostalgia

Guitar pattern in the intro is good. The vocals reverb sounds awesome however sometimes when you are singing quicker words, the reverb blends weirdly and some of the vocals are lost. If possible, some more reverb automation would fix this and sound awesome with keeping some ending lines of the reverb. Lyrics are great throughout and clearly a very personal song which shows in the very emotional vocals. Sometimes during the “na na” and “nostalgia” words during the hook, the vocals seem to go very slightly out of time however this is not noticeable unless you are really looking for it. The pad outro sounds calm and fits the song very well. Overall, again well produced however some timing issues through of the song a little at times.

Album Overall

Huge range of styles in the album and generally very good album. Vocals are awesome throughout and the full album is very well produced. Every song fits together. I have already added some of these songs to my playlists. They are well produced to a very high-quality standard. This entire album is a new favourite of mine. A huge audience can fit for this album. There is a song for everyone on it. Emo hip-hop mix throughout which is hard hitting and emotionally connecting. Extremely well written and has an endless listening period. I have heavily enjoyed listening to the album. Danny Silvertone has an amazing vocal style and voice with brilliant lyricism.
