Review for Distinguish Me by Girl Gossip

Album Art & Music Video

Firstly, the album art is awesome! The cover art of the people on the sofa looks good and very well done. Lyric video is very well produced and fits the style of the song overall incredibly. The graffiti style backgrounds are a good choice.

Distinguish Me

0:00 - Heavy distortion guitars in the introduction to the song is interesting and enticing. The slower played guitar (less rhythmic) is a good start.

0:20 – Great vocals, high quality, and interesting lyrics. The rhythmic guitar picks up in speed and drums kick in.

0:39 – Very cool shift between heavy rock style to rap. Great transition and very unexpected

0:47 – Lyrics interesting however they seemed someone drowned out by the guitars (guitars seem to be loud and distracting from lyrics)

1:19 – Back to chorus, smooth transition. The music video also seemed to change in colour from mostly blues to add reds which seemed fitting for the emotions in the song and almost growing as its own being.

1:36 – Harsh jump back to the rap but this harsh jump fits the lyrics. The music video seems to go back to a more monotone colour scheme which works well with the lyrics.

1:45 – Scream part seems like the vocalist was holding back. I think this could be more powerful if the vocalist did not hold back the scream / shout.

1:55 – Similar style of vocals here to deep sung metal vocalists. Has a lot of emotion in this verse and it is very clear within the music.

2: 16 – The vocals here in the chorus are contrasting to the previous verse and are beautiful sounding. The song so far is showing a lot of potential and with the style of the song and emotions given, it feels incredibly personal and immersive. Again, the music video changes in look to more colour, this is a great almost hidden feature to eagle eyed listeners, where an audience on streaming platforms or listening only will not get that small story telling feature.

2:56 – I love the smooth fade ending to the song. It is almost an ending to this section of the story. Also, the song is a great length – not too short but also fits a story into 3 minutes.

I feel that the song has a lot of interesting areas to it and fits a lot of other styles of music. I feel that some comparisons to other artists can be made such as to “Linkin Park”, “Evanescence” and “Korn”. Although these artists are different from your own music, I feel that these have similar aspects of sound. Your sound has some unique aspects including the vocals being different in style to other bands. The vocals sound different to what I have heard before and make the sound stand out from a crowd.
