REVIEW: Young Miro X Candy Shop Records: "CANDY SHOP TONIGHT" & "ROCKSTAR GIRLFRIEND" [Single]

Candy Shop Records X Young Miro

Rockstar Girlfriend

The infusion of pop punk vibes throughout this track creates a captivating atmosphere that resonates with fans of the genre. The seamless integration of energetic instrumentals and emotionally-charged lyrics enhances the overall appeal, offering listeners a dynamic sonic experience. It's refreshing to hear a contemporary take on the pop punk sound, and the authenticity of the lyrics adds depth to the song's narrative.  The mixing is high quality and recording is to a professional standard. The production is also well done with decent sounding drums and sweet guitar playing. The lyrics referring with sexual connotations feel almost random but still work with the “rock and roll” attitude and care-free nature.

Although this song isn’t in my personal style, I enjoyed the fun feel and upbeat vibes that it gives. The half-time slower bit at the 1:50 mark is a nice break and change in pace from the faster drums throughout the rest of the track. The vocalist is clearly talented and the overall style of the song is fun and playful throughout. The bass guitar is also very clean in tone and has a crisp treble.

“Ripping beyblades” is a cool choice of lyric and almost childlike - keeping the playing nature of the song. I feel like this track was influenced in some way by “Emo Girl” by MGK so could fit side by side with it in playlists. This track gives the pop punk feel a fresh twist with it’s angsty lyrics and infectious melody and lyrics. This song fits pop punk as a genre seamlessly.

Candyshop Tonight

The guitar opening for this song is nicely performed and mixed. The lyrics “Candy Shop Tonight” becomes a bit repetitive at points however keeps up the fun, care-free spirit of the song. The bedroom pop / lo-fi drums used in this track are reminiscent of older Alex G songs and newer MGK songs. The lyrics in parts (1:47) are a little strange but again keeps up the vibe throughout.

The mixing and production of this track is to a great standard and quality.  The fade out ending is a good way to end this song as it is not harsh and keeps the old school feel.

While the song doesn’t hit the mark for me personally, so much energy and care clearly has been put into the mix and production. The guitar melody works brilliantly and showcases the care in the instrumental.

Overall

Both songs “Rockstar Girlfriend” and “Candy Shop Tonight” are fun songs that are both full of energy. The lyrics are entertaining and fun to listen to. They both encapsulate the pop punk genre as a whole and have a laid back feel.

The album art for these songs is cool looking and works well with the pop punk genre in these songs - the anime style is a unique choice.

The 2 songs are pretty good, albeit unique. The mixing and production is well done. The lyrics could use some work in parts but overall are fun and playful. Fans of Machine Gun Kelly, Blink-182 may love these songs.
